Viva Como Queira is the debut album by indie Latin artist, Yokandesh. Yokandesh has an amazingly warm, sweet voice that will instantly capture your hear. The album begins with “Amizade,” featuring rapper, Kdu dos Anjos. It is a funky disco track with a Latin twist. “Aquecido” is soulful and endearing with a spacey and soaring accompaniment. “Princesa, Rainha” features a technically intricate, finger-picking guitar at the beginning and warps into a delicious pop sound, similar to Maroon 5. The rotary organ on “Impulso” gives a nice touch to this pop rock tune. “Charme Inglês” is a mellow jazz song with a sensual overall sound, emotional vocals, and a beautiful guitar solo. “Nao Pare” is lively, danceable and fun, and the ballad, “Você Aqui” is a duet sung with Carla Villar, whose vocals are delicate and angelic. The upbeat, “Tem Que Sambar” and “Vejam As Crianças” will have you dancing. “Um Lugar” is sultry, and the R&B-laced, “Voando Alto” is very catchy. “Garupa” is nicely arranged with a reggae-feel and expressive vocals. A muted trumpet sets the tone on the introduction for, “A Vida Vai,” featuring Danilo França. It starts soulful and sultry, and then rocks out with a groove. The unique, “Subaduba,” is bluesy and groovy with a funky keyboard, muted trumpet, and scat singing. An amazing debut album!
As I spread my vision, my scope and my abilities new experiences come up. This time recording drums was the challenge and in the end Success!
The idea was to record Chauncey’s drums while jamming with Diana. The MIDI controller didn’t help us with that, so click track and previous scratch track was used.
Faulkner technique with 2 B3s and individual mics for Kick (E901), Snare (C1000 and SM57) and Toms (SM57 and D112). That was the setup. Will post the result when things are done with more details on how it was all done.
So far it sounds decent. We do have a picture to post of the happy people: Diana and Chauncey @ SAE studio B recording Diana’s “Awake to Arise”
This is my post about Hudson K – “Eccentric anti-pop piano rock.”
As I listen to “Prayer For Love” I can instantly transport myself to another decade and definitely Cabaret comes to my mind. Would love to see them live, as I think that’s where the fun would be. Christina all over the piano and jumping on the chair, almost can picture that. Now the tune that I spent more time listening was “Shine” which has a nice melodic game feel with a lot of stops and brief silences. Gives it a nice movement and tango touch to me. Brusque but gentle motion. On the chorus they let themselves relax, Shine and let the beat flow easily. Since I’m not much of a reviewer or critique I decided to show some love by singing “Shine”. Didn’t practice that much, so if I don’t follow the melody line perfectly: “I’m sorry Hudson K”. Oh! The most challenging was that I translated to Portuguese… Forgot to mention that.
This was fun for me though, interpreting another song.
SUBWAY AWARENESS
Everyday I ride the subway. Everyday I have the same thoughts. I feel like a ROBOT. The robot is in me. The robot has it’s own thoughts. It’s own desires. It desires chaos. It desires WAR.
People pass thru the doors and don’t hold them for the next person, the Robot hates that. Citizens don’t move fast enough, hates it. On the escalators they are supposed to be on the right, so I can run in the free left lane. Why do they do this? Why? Why? Can’t anybody think about others for a minute? I’m late!
WAIT
Sometimes others DO hold the doors though, and DO wait on the right of the escalators. Sometimes there are even faster ones. What’s going on?
Why am I in a hurry to begin with?
What’s this fight in my mind? What a waste of thought. STRESS!
What about me? What do I do? I’m fast!
What about those days you feel relaxed and don’t have appointments? I’m slow.
What about those days you are mad? I definitely don’t hold doors for NOBODY.
What’s up with you then, son? Dunno, I guess I’m crazy. Complaining about the very same things I do myself.
Ok, I see that. Some are having bad days and some are having good days. Can’t be angry at myself, so… I forgive and understand myself, consequently everybody else too. What a load off my shoulders.
TIME SHIFTING
When everyone is in a hurry and I don’t focus on what I want, I end up in a hurry too. Now, for me, there are two possibilities:
I’m on time OR I’m late
Ok. After figuring that out, I was concerned on how to get that FRENZY off of me. So, to manage to do that I had to clear out my relation with time. Make sure I had the rules of our relationship sorted out. This is my agreement: Time you will help me meet and interact with people. Great! What you will NOT do: Interfere with my inner watch and make me anxious and in a hurry. Awesome.
With that set I realized that even if I’m on time or late I can be myself. Good mood and all included, I just have to choose that.
What happens when your late? I focus instead of being ANXIOUS, this way I can plan out much better my current way around the city, plus I’m able to picture the next situations. This will help me be ON time, from that point on.
TIME SHIFTING AND SUBWAY AWARENESS
These subjects came about as I was able to trick my own head into NOT being in a hurry or angry while passing thru the Subway of New York.
Yours,
ROBOT and Yokandesh
(Soon just Yokandesh)
